Siemens Powerlink 50/100 is a high-performance industrial network device using the Powerlink protocol for real-time communication.
PowerLink 50/100 is Siemens’ modern Power Line Carrier (PLC) system, designed to use high-voltage transmission lines between substations as a communication channel. It provides secure and reliable transmission of voice, data, telecontrol, and protection signals, making it an ideal solution for low- to medium-rate communications where fiber infrastructure is unavailable or a backup link is required.
PowerLink 50/100 is Siemens’ modern Power Line Carrier (PLC) system, designed to use high-voltage transmission lines between substations as a communication channel. It provides secure and reliable transmission of voice, data, telecontrol, and protection signals, making it an ideal solution for low- to medium-rate communications where fiber infrastructure is unavailable or a backup link is required.
The system supports analog, digital, or mixed operating modes. The carrier frequency can be set between 24 kHz and 1000 kHz, and bandwidths from 2 kHz to 32 kHz are selectable. With a 32 kHz bandwidth, data rates of up to approximately 320 kbps can be achieved. This allows the PowerLink 50/100 to handle both traditional analog voice channels and modern digital data services on the same device.
PowerLink 50/100 is available with amplifier options of 20 W, 50 W, and 100 W, with output power adjustable via software. Integration with the Siemens SWT 3000 teleprotection system ensures the highly reliable transmission of protection signals, critical for secure power grid operations.
On the interface side, the device supports VF (voice frequency) analog voice channels, E1, RS-232, and other telecontrol interfaces. This makes the system compatible with legacy telecontrol solutions as well as modern IP/Ethernet-based infrastructures.
In terms of physical and environmental features, the PowerLink 50/100 has an IP20 protection class and is suitable for 19-inch rack mounting. It operates in a temperature range of −5 °C to +55 °C, with storage and transport limits between −40 °C and +70 °C, and relative humidity from 5% to 95% (non-condensing). The PL100 version weighs about 21 kg with a 50 W amplifier and about 26 kg with a 100 W amplifier.
