With its focus on security, continuity, and flexibility, the device is a critical component in modern power transmission infrastructure. It supports both analog and digital operation modes on a single hardware and software platform, ensuring the continuity of existing analog systems while enabling seamless integration with modern digital telecommunication networks.
The ETL600 R4, developed by Hitachi Energy, is an advanced Power Line Carrier (PLC) system designed to provide reliable voice, data, and teleprotection communication over high-voltage transmission lines. With its focus on security, continuity, and flexibility, the device is a critical component in modern power transmission infrastructure. It supports both analog and digital operation modes on a single hardware and software platform, ensuring the continuity of existing analog systems while enabling seamless integration with modern digital telecommunication networks.
The ETL600 R4 offers cost-efficient communication for transmission grids, flexible architecture, highly reliable delivery of protection signals, and efficient use of bandwidth resources. At the same time, it can serve as a backup to broadband communication media, ensuring service continuity in mission-critical applications. Shared hardware and spare parts across both analog and digital PLC configurations further enhance operational efficiency.
Technically, the ETL600 R4 provides users with multiple modulation techniques, including Single Side Band (SSB), Multicarrier/OFDM with Trellis Coding, and Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) frequency generation, alongside flexible bandwidth selection. Up to three analog channels can be used for “speech plus” applications, while the high-speed digital channel can be configured with adjustable bandwidth and speed. In addition, the system supports up to two integrated teleprotection units, each with four independent command channels.
For data communication, built-in narrowband modems support low-latency transmission up to 9600 bps, while a programmable broadband modem allows speeds up to 256 kbps. TDM multiplexing enables the combination of voice and data channels, supporting up to 16 compressed voice channels. Ethernet and serial data interfaces, an integrated switch/router, and SNMP-based alarm management make the system easy to integrate into modern networks.
The output power can be configured at either 50 W or 100 W, with the compact 50 W model available in a single 6U rack unit. Power supply options include single or redundant configurations. Designed for demanding environments, the ETL600 R4 operates within a temperature range of -30 °C to +70 °C and up to 95% relative humidity.
With its combination of analog and digital operation, robust teleprotection functions, modern network management integration, and rugged hardware, the ETL600 R4 delivers a future-proof PLC solution that ensures secure and reliable communications for power transmission networks over the long term.
